How to delete your credit report
79How to delete or fix your credit report
There are easy ways to delete your credit report. This is a very sensitive topic for most people. A lot of people take pride in creating a strong credit history and have maintained a great credit history for years! Needless to say, tons of people have had to use most or all of their credit to simply survive in the current economy.
The good news is...there is help.
Some people have had to let their homes go. Some have had to use all their credit to save their homes and still had to let it go in the end. This has taken a huge toll on peoples credit reports and scores, which obviously means, now what?
Now I have no credit left, the credit I do have is bad credit I have no home and have to start all over. As you know, it can take YEARS for you to get back on track when it comes to credit reports and scores.
The 3 major credit bureau's are:
TransUnion
Experian
Equifax
Once a year, you can obtain a free copy of each of your credit reports. There is truly no fee and you do NOT have to enter a credit card number or any other billing information. Just go to annualcreditreport.com
Once you get a copy of each report, you can guage where you are at. Check to see how many lates you have, charge off's, etc. You can dispute items directly with the credit reporting agency by choosing the "dispute" section. So if something is not yours, it's a different name or a name like yours but is not you, you can dispute it right online. Then the credit reporting agency has to verify it. If it is not verified within 30 days, it has to be deleted per FCRA laws. OR, if it is not yours, it has to be deleted too.
Some things might even be your items, but you dispute them and they get deleted too :)
FCRA stands for Federal Credit Reporting Act. It required agencies like Experian, Equifax and TransUnion to accurately report items on your credit report.
Some people have common names and items appear on their report that are not theirs. If the accounts go bad, and result in a charge off or lates on your credit report, your interest rates go up on everything else. But why pay if it is not yours? Just be strong, and start writing letters and using the online dispute process.
Lets say you have a ton of credit problems, rather it is your fault or not, there are laws and methods to get the items deleted from your report like they never existed. There are credit repair companies that are masters in this area. They know the tricks of the trade and the laws needed to get these accounts deleted rather you opened the account or not and for whatever reason paid it back or not. Is this morally wrong? Nope. What do you think bankruptcy is? It is the same thing, the debt is discharged even though you maxed the credit card out buying shoes... but when you cant pay you cant pay and in America, you file bankruptcy or, you pay someone a small fee to get the item deleted from your report.
DO NOT FEEL BAD!
Feeling bad is a lie. Think about the companies or corporations that prey on you all the time. They jack up your interest rate for being late ONCE in 10 years. They charge you an over limit fee, and then an over credit limit fee, and jack up your rate to %29.99 percent because you went over your limit by a few dollars. Then they get some mean collection agent to call you all day and night at home and at work with EMPTY threats to scare you in to spending your last few bucks trying to pay them back. This is only fear people. Most companies will not sue you unless the dollar amount is $2500. or more... some companies it is $5000. or more. SO DONT SUCCUMB to fear.
Remember, when you start the credit repair process, or the bankruptcy process, the collection calls will stop. All the "legal status" stops... so relax and watch your credit report change monthly...back to what it was when your credit was good :) The most important thing is to not have fear. These are things to remember:
You can N O T go to jail for not paying back a credit card or loan but you can be sued and a judgement is obtained to garnish your wages and take money from your bank account.
You can N O T be stalked at work, called at work after you tell them to stop or threatened in any way.
You have legal recourse from creditors if they harass or lie to you. Below are sites to credit repair agencies, federal and state regulators if you want to file a complaint againse a collection agent or agency, and to FCRA so you can see what your rights are. They can be different from state to state so make sure you check your state laws by searching online.
